We thought you may like to read a little about what some of our past students have been doing since leaving Nower Hill.
Becky Kendall. Becky was in our first cohort of 6th Form students in 2006, has kindly written a piece on what she’s been up to since leaving Nower Hill.
‘After completing a degree in Politics and International Relations at the University of Sheffied, I've spent time waitressing, being a teaching assistant and even worked for the metropolitan police! For the past year and a half though I have worked for an educational charity called IntoUniversity, which I love! IntoUniversity is a nationwide charity that provides local learning centres where young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are inspired to achieve. My team and I plan and deliver a range of aspiration raising workshops, academic support sessions and mentoring schemes to local schools and students. Our main aim as a charity is to increase the number of students from disadvantaged backgrounds that gain a university place, thereby increasing social mobility. At the moment I am really happy and I am gaining a varied set of skills that will be invaluable for any job in the future’.
Charles De Lord. Charles was also in our first cohort in 2006.
Charles studied Aviation Technology with Pilot Studies at the University of Leeds and left in 2011 having gained a First.
Charles worked within the aviation industry until he secured a place on a sponsored cadet flying course based in Spain and earned his Pilot’s Licence in the summer of 2013. Charles now has a flying role with Flybe and took his first plane load of passengers in the summer of 2014.
Suraj left Nower Hill in 2009 and completed his degree and was given the opportunity of 8 weeks work experience with the F1 racing team, McLaren. Towards the end of his Work Experience he had made such an impression, he was offered a full time job. His career has progressed and he now has the impressive title of Marketing Co-Ordinator.
Arita took a gap year after leaving us in 2012 but secured a place at the Oxford School of Drama; Arita has very long days and finds herself tired at the end, but she said ‘when you love something so much, you don’t think of the negative points’.
