UCAS and Careers
We are very proud of the support given to students as they make their choices post 18. We know that our students value and speak highly of the guidance and support that they are given to enable them to make the right choices. Form Tutors, with support from Mrs Rogers, UCAS Specialist, guide students through the university application process and are responsible for writing UCAS references. Mrs Foster, Head of Careers helps with everything from knowledge of specific course choices, guidance on arranging work experience or contact with people in particular careers who will provide practical help or advice on a one-to-one basis. Mrs Rogers will give every student an individual support session to help them write their personal statement and will train students to write the most effective personal statement for their chosen pathway. We also offer every student a mock interview.
Students are encouraged to start thinking about university applications in their AS year and there will be visits from university admissions tutors, visits to universities and a series of workshops on the UCAS process to make sure you have the best possible information to make the right choices. There’s also time and opportunity for individual research into universities and the courses on offer.
If you are planning to apply for a course or university with particular entrance requirements we will help with extra support, information and advice. We run an ASPIRE programme for our Oxbridge/Medicine candidates and preparation for additional entrance tests such as BMAT and UKCAT.
Almost all students move on to University after the 6th Form. We also support students looking for an apprenticeship or planning a gap year.
